INTERCULTURAL THERAPY – MELBOURNE | ONLINE
Therapy that goes
beneath the surface
We don’t offer quick fixes or coping worksheets. We offer a space to understand — slowly, deeply, in your own language — what is happening inside you, and why.
our approach
Holistic.
Feminist.
Deep.
Every service at Talking Works is grounded in the same foundation: a psychodynamic approach that takes your inner world seriously – and its reflection on your body.
We draw on the work of Freud and the ISTDP tradition, as well as Schema Therapy, EMDR and Somatic Therapy. We work through an explicitly feminist, intersectional lens. The systems you live inside — gender, migration, race, culture — are not background. They are part of the work itself.
All services are available in three languages – because your inner world doesn’t always translate.

Individual Psychotherapy
A space to understand yourself and the challenges you have been through
Something keeps returning. A pattern in your relationships. A heaviness you can’t name. A sense that you’ve rebuilt your life here — but lost yourself somewhere along the way. Individual therapy at Talking Works is depth-oriented work. We look at what’s underneath the symptoms — the history, the relationships, the unconscious patterns formed long before you arrived in Australia.
This may be for you if you are navigating:
- Migration grief and cultural dislocation
- Identity — who you are becoming, and who you’ve had to leave behind after moving to Australia
- Anxiety, depression, or emotional overwhelm
- Relationships — with a partner, your family, yourself
- The pressure of being an immigrant woman expected to adapt, succeed, and be grateful
- Changes in your body — what it holds that the mind hasn’t found words for yet
- Traumas and PTSD — that you brought with you or developed in Australia
- Gestational matters – pregnancy, motherhood and its changes in your life
Couples Therapy
For relationships carrying more than they show
Immigration puts extraordinary pressure on relationships. Two people who once shared a world are now rebuilding in a new one — often in different languages, at different speeds, carrying different losses. Couples therapy at Talking Works creates a space where both of you can be heard, and where the patterns between you can begin to be understood.
We work with couples navigating:
- Intercultural difference and language gaps
- The strain of immigration and relocation
- Communication breakdown and disconnection
- Intimacy, conflict, and the weight of rebuilding a shared life
Clinical Supervision
For clinicians working with psychodynamic approaches and completing their 5+1
Supervision is available:
- In English, Portuguese and Spanish
- Online or face-to-face
- Individual and in group
Degree Validation Consultancy
For international psychologists seeking to practice in Australia
If you trained as a psychologist outside Australia and are seeking to have your qualifications recognised, the process can be complex and disorienting — particularly if you’re navigating it in a second language. Drawing on her own experience as a Brazilian-trained psychologist in the Australian system, Patricia offers guidance, support, and clarity on the pathway ahead.
Consultancy can be:
- Self-paced, through an online course
- Individual, one-on-one, focused on your case
